Help make this exciting new fundraiser event a reality! How far would you go for The Hurling?
Fans in 1920s, 1930s and 1940s Ireland often rode their bicycles to catch the final match of the season, but it came to a head in 1944 when thousands took to the roads on two wheels in a pilgrimage to that year's final in Thurles.
To commemorate that feat of athleticism with even more athleticism, the Milwaukee Hurling Club is planning a similarly epic ride round Brown Deer Park.
Tentatively scheduled for spring of 2018, the Great Ride of Hurling/ MHC Great Bicycle Final Ride (working titles) will need a sturdy support team of volunteers and organizers for tasks like course setup, lap counting, securing cooperation from area bicycle shops, bike security and so on.
We will be holding our first meeting on Sunday, January 21 at 3:30 PM in the County Clare's Michael Joyce Room.
At the meeting, we'll discuss logistics and begin to determine the kinds of tasks, responsibilities and necessities that will need to be deployed in the planning and execution of the event.
Can we count on you to take part? Join us on Sunday to learn more and find out how you can get involved. ... See MoreSee Less
